Will flights increase in the future?
Sydney Airport has experienced a significant increase in movements over the years. In 2005 there were 281,738 movements annually. In 2010 there were 304,938 movements and in 2018 there were 349,974. This is why the Government is building a second airport in Western Sydney.
Federally-leased airports like Sydney Airport must submit a Master Plan to the Minister every five years which sets out future growth plans and forecasts the volume of traffic. If the Minister approves it, airports will implement that plan including the growth foreshadowed within it.
